Nov2026
Land degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate change are ecologically inseparable, yet global governance regimes remain institutionally siloed and geopolitical tensions continue to strain negotiations which hamper synergetic progress. Nevertheless, global environmental governance forges in full swing. The year 2026 marks a sequential unfolding of three Rio Conventions: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (UNCD 17) in August, 2026; the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Yerevan, Armenia (CBD 17) in October, 2026; and the UN Framework Convention on Climate (COP31) in Antalya, Turkey. As Parties prepare to participate in this Triple-COP year, this panel will deliberate on what to expect from the negotiations, pathways to implement climate-land-biodiversity synergies and pool public and private finance.
