Arnold Musungu
Arnold Musungu Lumumbah serves as Associate Fellow, Climate and Energy at ORF Middle East. His research sits at the intersection of climate change, economic development, and policy, with expertise in climate adaptation, green growth, energy transition, and the socioeconomic dimensions of climate vulnerability across Africa.
Arnold brings extensive research and policy experience spanning academia, international development, and government. Most recently, he worked as a Consultant Economist with the World Bank, leading research on how climate change affect internally displaced populations in Africa. He previously served as a Development Economist at the Foreign and Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) in Nairobi, where he led economic analysis and evidence generation across climate adaptation, jobs and labor market, human capital, and social protection to inform UK programming in Kenya. As an ODI Global Fellow seconded to the Global Green Growth Institute's Africa Regional Office, he led the design of green growth projects and contributed to mobilizing over €20M in financing for green and climate-resilient investments across Africa.
Earlier, Arnold was a doctoral researcher at the Center for Development Research (ZEF), University of Bonn, where his work focused on climate change and economic development in Africa. He has also held research and policy roles at the Local Development Research Institute (LDRI), UC San Diego, and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE).
Arnold holds a PhD in Development Economics from the University of Bonn.
