Dhruba Purkayastha

Dhruba is the Adviser at Observer Research Foundation Middle East (ORF ME) and a recognised expert in Sustainable Development and Climate Finance. With over 30 years of experience in non-profit institutions, international development, and management consulting, his expertise includes Financing Infrastructure and Clean Energy, Sustainable Finance, Energy Transition, Public Policy, Regulation and Public-Private Partnerships.

Currently, his research focuses on Financing Climate Investments, Greening Industrial Growth, Financing Adaptation and Resilience and Managing Climate Risk. Previously, Dhruba served as the India Director for Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), an international non-profit institution working at the nexus of Climate Policy and Finance. He was also a Director at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), one of Asia’s leading not-for-profit policy research institutions in Sustainable Development.

Earlier in his career, Dhruba held senior roles at the World Bank Group – the World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC). Dhruba is an Engineering graduate from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi, a postgraduate in Management from IIM-Calcutta and a PhD from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi where his research focused on financing infrastructure and clean energy projects through financial markets.
